NUMB

On her knees she fell,

Her face emptied of emotions;

A burden so heavy,

In her heart she carried;

Oblivious of the chaos

Surrounding her feeble body,

She stared into an abyss

With eyes void, lips speechless;

Thorns and pebbles prickled

Her toes when she walked;

Her blood-stained toes

Hurt no more;

A thousand questions

Weighed down her fatigued mind;

Her throat parched,

Yet nothing did she feel;

Her spirit mourned aloud,

But she was still, she was numb.

Twelve Hours of Boredom

Yeah, and a spoilt weekend for 900 bucks!!! Well that's Ok, coz i had my own fun. I was an invigilator for BITS DLPD comprehensive exams. I didn't know that each person was allotted one room. It wasn't a difficult job(ob!!!) yet a tiresome and extremely boring one! i had to get up at 6 in the morning and reach the examination centre by 8. i missed my breakfast on Saturday and had to wait till 11 to get something into my growling stomach. i wondered why those guys needed invigilation. They were damn sincere. moreover, it was an open book exam. what was the max they could do? Anyways, after the first session, i met some of my friends from pilani and goa and spent the lunch break with them. Lunch wasn't bad. I saw a bunch of Mizo people practising volleyball in the school field.Seemed to be some tournament practice.It felt good to see them.it felt like home.i miss mizoram!!i was searching for familiar faces,but couldn't find any.I wasn't confident enough to converse with them in their mother tongue.its been a long time since i spoke in mizo!

The second half was torture to the core!i was struggling to keep my eyes open. This bunch was also sincere. They were quietly minding their business. I just had to announce the usual "switch off your cellphones" and "5 minutes left" kinda things. I decided not to walk around the room. i was already tired of all the strolling in the forenoon session. but again, sitting would keep me from being awake. so i kept switching. the guy invigilating in the adjacent class was hardly bothered about his "kids". he was walkin in the corridor with his cellphone, giving them the full liberty to do whatever they wanted.

I did learn some lessons from the first day. So i got my water-bottle and a packet of polo with me. also,i had a bun in the morning before leaving. the morning session went kinda ok, but i had a tough time in the afternoon.lack of sleep,a heavy lunch and the heat added up to my sleepiness. i moistened my kerchief and continuously dabbed my face with it. and the people in my room were not that honest this time. two guys tried to discuss among themselves. i just stared at them for sometime. when they noticed that i was looking, they stopped discussing. i went and stood beside them. there was another pair of girls trying to communicate non-verbally. One of them tried her best to show the other girl her answer-sheet. so i stood behind the class and kept an eye on them. that and the afternoon tea helped to get rid of my sleep.

It felt different,being on the other side. but i'm tellin you, its no treat!i'd prefer to rack my brain on the question paper rather than sitting and staring at a bunch of people rackin theirs!These were people with good jobs in big companies like Honeywell,infosys,wipro,intel etc. anyways,it was a new experience and thrilling in a way. atleast i got my 900 bucks!!! :)
